Blue Bohemia Bud Vase
A bud vase in rich cobalt blue. The form references an Ottoman rosewater sprinkler or small decanter. Part of the substantial Bohemian production made for the near east export market and for the european taste for Orientalism throughout the mid-to-late nineteenth century. Blue glass cased over the truncated conical body wheel-cut through in alternating oval medallions and elongated trefoil motifs. The neck is spiral-cut in a continuous helical ribbon, the cobalt layer unwinding to reveal the clear glass beneath a technically demanding feature rarely achieved with this crispness.
Good condition, with light wear consistent with age. No chips, cracks, or repairs.
