A rectangular porcelain opium pillow, decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with stylized Qilin—auspicious mythical creatures associated with protection and prosperity. Each side features mirrored figures framed by a classic Greek key border, with pierced floral scrollwork at either end.

The hollow body is designed as a concealed storage compartment, with a narrow opening on one end and pierced detailing on the base. This interior space was used to hide personal belongings while resting or under the influence—an important function in opium dens, where theft was a common concern. Porcelain pillows such as this were valued for their durable form, cooling surface, and symbolic decoration, and were commonly used in both domestic and social settings during the late Qing period.

Light surface wear consistent with age, including minor glaze fritting and small firing imperfections. The painted cobalt decoration remains sharp and vivid, with no structural cracks or repairs observed.
